River trips --- The Perfect Vacation!

Camping on the Salmon River
Main Salmon River photo by Dunbar Hardy

We invite you to venture down the spectacular rivers of Montana and Idaho. Considered to wild by America's great early explorers, our trip destinations are some of the most pristine areas of Lewis & Clark's expedition route. The Main Salmon River is a perfect multi-day outdoor adventure. Plan your own private launch date for a reunion of friends & family or secluded corporate retreat. This river is appropriate for families and all paddling levels. A free flowing, the Salmon carves out the second deepest canyon in the US and after high water, leaves vast white sand beaches for camping. The Alberton Gorge is a fun family day float just 35 miles from Missoula, MT. The Lochsa River boasts dozens of Class IV rapids, don't miss this high-adventure ride during May & June run-off, only 1 hour from Missoula, MT.

We offer a variety of trips: Multi-day river trips, scenic river trips by canoe, exciting whitewater during spring run-off, hiking and biking on the historic Lolo Trail, or custom-designed combination of adventure destinations.

Lewis & Clark Trail Adventures was founded in 1989 to provide quality outdoor adventure for travelers who have imagined the places and the sense of wonder described by Lewis & Clark.

With that same sense of exploration and discovery, we can help bring your dream to life. Since our inception, we have consistently maintained the highest standards of excellence in serving our clients. We provide safe, dependable and professional outfitting services.

Our meals are prepared fresh with simplicity and attention to detail. Our gear is top quality and ensures your comfort. Our guides are experienced outdoorsmen/women, knowledgeable in history, and love to have fun.

Our headquarters in Missoula, MT is adventure central. Missoula is located near the most interesting and well preserved areas of the Lewis and Clark Trail, about 1/2 way between Glacier and Yellowstone Park, and just a few miles from the famous Bob Marshall Wilderness

Lochsa River

Lochsa River

"The mountains which we passed to day much worst than yesterday, the last excessively bad. Encamped opposite a small island at the mouth of a branch of the river….We named it Colt Killed Creek, for the colt we killed, on which we made a hearty supper. The river itself is 80 yards wide with a swift current and stony channel. Its indian name is Kooskooskee.
